Electric Picture Display Systems (EPDS) is partnering with global technology provider Kongsberg Maritime on a gnificant upgrade to the simulation capabilities at the French Navy’s officer training academy, École Navale, following Kongsberg Maritime’s recent award from the French Navy.
The program will provide the academy with next-generation ship bridge simulation systems designed to enhance the training of naval cadets and officers at one of the world’s leading naval education institutions.

“EPDS is proud to support Kongsberg Maritime and the French Naval Academy on this next-generation training initiative,” said Robert Paul (R.P.) Higgins, president of Electric Picture Display Systems. “Immersive visual environments play a critical role in preparing cadets and officers for real-world operations, and we are honored to contribute to this advanced simulation program.”
As part of the project, EPDS will provide visualization and display technologies with that enhance the realism of the training environment. The wider solution also includes VR and mixed-reality capabilities, configurable hybrid bridge setups for multi-role training, and desktop ECDIS simulators for classroom-based instruction.
The modernization effort builds on a long-standing relationship between Kongsberg Maritime and the French Navy that spans roughly 30 years. The upgraded systems are intended to better prepare trainees for complex maritime operations by providing highly realistic, mission-focused simulation environments with displays upgraded to 4K/UHD resolution.
Once operational, the simulators will enable cadets and officers at École Navale to train in demanding operational scenarios, strengthen coordination skills, and improve overall readiness for real-world naval missions.
