Melbourne, FL USA, June 29, 2023 – Electric Picture Display Systems, a Melbourne-based Visual Systems designer/integrator celebrating its 20th year of operation, was recently awarded a contract to provide simulation projection upgrades for three British Royal Navy training centers. The commission is a component of Project Selborne and its mission to modernize and deliver cutting edge training for the Royal Navy.
As a team partner on the project contract, Electric Picture has been selected by Kongsberg Digital of Norway to upgrade the older multi-channel projection systems with up to 4K resolution at three British Royal Navy Simulation training centers:
- HMS Collingwood, the Royal Navy’s largest training establishment and headquarters of the Maritime Warfare School and Surface Stream,
- HM Naval Base Clyde, commonly known as Faslane, is the Royal Navy’s main presence in Scotland near Glasgow and is home base for their Submarine Service.
- Britannia Royal Naval College, at Dartmouth, is the naval academy of the United Kingdom and its initial officer training establishment.
Electric Picture was chosen over larger, more established simulation display providers from around the world to provide high-resolution 4K projection using camera-based blending/warping, fiber-optic signal transmission, and its proprietary Mallard PictureBlend system. The Mallard PictureBlend technology eliminates overlapped projected light in night vision scenes.
“We are honored to be selected for this prestigious project,” says RP Higgins, Founder and President of Electric Picture. “While our 20 years of designing, engineering, integrating, and supporting dramatically lifelike simulation systems speaks for itself, our new Mallard PictureBlend technology takes simulators even higher with seamless nighttime projection.”
The upgraded systems are projected to be operational in the fall of 2023.
